And just four years after their friendship seemingly fastened, the three times World Cup champion lay still as he bid farewell to the world. Pele, a miracle for the world of Soccer, breathed his last at the hospital he had been receiving treatment for his colon cancer and other ailments for the past few months. He reportedly died of multiple organ failure on December 29th at 3:27 pm local time.
Many celebrities, including Will Smith, took to their social media handles to pay homage to the Brazilian legend. Sharing a selfie in black and white, Smith wrote, “The Greatest to ever do it,” continuing in Portuguese, “Rest in peace. King Pele.”
