When Allan McLeod’s Hilarious Christmas Poetry Got Ryan Gosling, Jim Carrey & Eva Mendes Together
Among the many good things that the virus took from us is Drunk History. The pure comedic rendition of the Funny or Die web series created by Derek Waters made sure every episode was a joy to watch. Undoubtedly one of the most iconic episodes of Drunk History consists of Allan McLeod reciting a Christmas poem. Staying true to the title, McLeod had already drowned his system in half a bottle of whiskey.

And to make sure that Drunk History Christmas goes down in history as one of the best Christmas specials, Will Ferrel got Oscar-winning actor Ryan Gosling and his talented girlfriend Eva Mendes to act out the poem as McLeod tries his best to battle the drowsiness and recite it. The episode came out in 2011 and to this day, is one of the most rewatched episodes of Drunk History.
What is Drunk History Christmas starring Ryan Gosling about?
Allan McLeod recites the classic Twas the night before Christmas. And the scene shifts to a house where Gosling Mendes and their two daughters are asleep before the night of Christmas. What makes things hilarious is that the characters follow whatever the drunk narrator recalls and lip-sync his words. Gosling, who is mostly known to pick roles that require a lot of depth and seriousness, was amazing in this light-hearted skit.

Dressed in his pajamas waiting for Saint Nicholas, the actor embodies the dad from the classic Christmas poetry even though McLeod does a terrible job of recounting it. “His eyes as they twinked, his cheeks were like jelly, his bowl full of ……jelly” Ryan Gosling lipsyncs to McLeod, who takes this as the final queue to give up. And is offered by Waters to instead read the remaining part of the poetry.

Eva Mendes shares the screen with her boyfriend
The Place Beyond the Pines is considered one of Gosling’s and Mendes’ best works. The 2012 crime drama was also the movie that brought the couple together. Furthermore, both Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, despite being in a profession that consists of them being in front of the camera most of the time, keep their relationship private. Therefore seeing the two of them in a Christmas special where they have two daughters, just like in real life, was an absolute delight.
