Netflix has secured the primary cast members for its film adaptation of The Boy in the Iron Box, a horror novella series co-written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The confirmed leads include Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand, and Jaeden Martell. David Prior, a frequent collaborator of del Toro, will direct and write the screenplay. del Toro will serve as a producer on the project, which is set to begin production in October.
The six-part novella series, published through Amazon Original Stories, follows a team of mercenaries whose plane crash-lands on a remote, snowy mountaintop. They find a maze-like stone fortress, which they believe to be a haven from the bitter cold and the lurking wolves. However, the fortress becomes a trap, and what they discover within its walls is a new form of terror that will test their will to survive. As The Boy in the Iron Box gets its cast sorted, del Toro has other things to look after as well.

Guillermo del Toro teases a new, violent thriller and a stop-motion epic
After his work on Frankenstein, the second-most expensive film of his career, Guillermo del Toro is already planning his next projects. At the Toronto International Film Festival, he spoke about a violent thriller in development titled Fury, which will star Oscar Isaac. del Toro described the project as a return to the cruel and violent aspects of Nightmare Alley. He also shared how, at 60, he is entering a new phase of his life, one he calls "the regret decade," which will influence the themes of his future work.

In addition to this live-action film, the acclaimed director is also preparing an ambitious stop-motion adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, The Buried Giant. del Toro stated that this will be an epic stop-motion film, not intended for a minor audience. This project continues his exploration of the medium, following his Academy Award-winning Pinocchio, and aims to push the boundaries of stop-motion filmmaking.
