Netflix has just announced a collaboration with Science Saru to bring Scott Pilgrim vs the World to the platform. The cherry on top is that the original cast from the 2010 movie will voice the characters on the show. Michael Cera, Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans, and Brie Larson are ready to reprise their roles in the animation. Not only the cast, but even the makers behind the film are coming on board.

Edgar Wright, BenDavid Grabinski, and Bryan Lee O’Malley are executive producing the show. However, since we don’t have information on the release dates, here are a few other Science Saru anime to help tide you over.

While Scott Pilgrim is more over the top, you can do with some change in genre. Japan Sinks: 2020 is a series that was released in 2020 and has only one season so far.

The disaster flick comes from Masaaki Yuasa. In the center of the narrative is a family trying to survive the massive earthquakes that are plaguing Japan and its population. You stream it on Netflix. 

Devilman Crybaby 

The 2018 anime is Science Saru and Masaaki Yuasa’s most famous work. It’s a reboot of the 20th original anime series. Only watch this if you have the stomach for gore and violence. The narrative follows two childhood pals, Ryo and Akira.

After a demon summoning got wrong, Akira became a hybrid. He had to kill every demon in the world to stop them from having the same fate as him.

The Tatami Time Machine Blues 

No catastrophes or demons here but we have lots of time traveling going on here. In The Tatami Time Machine Blues, a 20-something finds a time machine in his apartment.

Unable to surprise by the urge to time travel, he and his gang start screwing with the timelines only to realize that they have messed up badly. Hulu is currently streaming the anime.

The anime department at the Netflix headquarters was hit the hardest when the streamer was facing a subscriber loss. The humongous losses that the digital platform experienced caused the executives at the top to pull some stops on certain shows. Now a year later, it seems the streamer is focused on offering remakes and live actions of popular IPs to its audience, for example, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
