‘The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep’ Gets a Big Update, While Wait for Liam Hemsworth’s Season 4 Continues

The Witcher season 4 is gearing up to be a make-or-break moment for the Netflix franchise. It will be a test to see if Henry Cavill was truly the heart of the show’s success, whether fans are still invested in Lauren Hissrich’s vision, if the creators will stay true to the source material after all the backlash, and if Liam Hemsworth can win people over as the new Geralt. However, while we know that the production for season 4 has officially started, updates about when it will actually air on the small screens have been pretty scarce.

While fans wait for The Witcher season 4, there is at least some good news from elsewhere in the franchise. The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, an animated film set in the same universe, just got a big update.

The animated dark fantasy film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep was first announced in late 2023 with a projected release date of late 2024. However, like many other installments in the franchise, it also faced delays. Last September, Netflix finally confirmed the film would drop on February 11, 2025. And now, Redanian Intelligence has reported that the trailer for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will release next week.

Netflix has already released a teaser for the film last September. While revealing the release date for Kang Hei Chul’s anime, the streaming giant also shared an exclusive clip introduced by Doug Cockle, the iconic voice behind Geralt in CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher games. Meanwhile, excitement for the Lauren Hissrich show, The Witcher on Netflix, seems to have fizzled out since the third season.

Fans do not seem nearly as hyped about season 4, and even the updates about filming have not done much to change that.

Do fans even care about The Witcher season 4 anymore?

Last year, when Redanian Intelligence shared some behind-the-scenes updates about The Witcher Season 4, it received very disappointed reactions from fans. And this lack of interest was not surprising, given that the show’s viewership has been on a very downward trend. Season 3’s viewership numbers had seen a drop of 15% compared to Season 2. And if those statistics are anything to go by, it seems like fewer and fewer people are interested in what comes next.

Netflix and its team have been working hard to get fans on board with the idea of Liam Hemsworth being just as good as the former Geralt, but for many, it is still tough to accept that Henry Cavill will not be returning to the show. On the bright side, there is one OG Geralt fans can still enjoy—Doug Cockle. He will be back in Sirens of the Deep and given that he almost had a fate similar to Cavill’s, it is nice to see one familiar face (or voice) sticking around.
