Steam Unhappy With Henry Cavill’s Exit From Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’, Roles Out Subtle Jibe
It’s no secret Henry Cavill had become synonymous with Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. The actor’s portrayal of the gruff monster hunter was so remarkable that it created a connection rarely seen in adaptations. Therefore, it felt almost like a personal betrayal for many fans when the British superstar announced his exit from the show. Social media erupted with calls for boycotts, petitions for Cavill’s return, and scathing criticism of the show’s creators.
Now months after his last appearance on the show, Steam has also expressed its disappointment in his exit with a subtle jibe.

Steam released its 2023 Year in Review three days ago. While discussing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, they slightly dissed the Netflix adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. The write-up pointed out the major shakeup that the fantasy drama has gone through after replacing Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth. “Much like Henry Cavill, you know what Geralt of Rivia is all about,” said Steam.
These remarks referred to the actor’s commitment to maintaining the books’ accuracy, which he believed writers were disregarding in later seasons. Also, his deep understanding of the character, his physical prowess and his dedication to swordsmanship. The former Superman was so invested in portraying the mutant to the point he almost lost his action career.
According to this statement, letting Cavill go was a major downgrade for the show’s success. While there have been several rumors swirling about it, the director of the series provided insight into why the actor may have left the show and it has something to do with training.

In August 2023, director Marc Jobst sat down with Screen Rant to talk about Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher. During the conversation, he praised the dedication the Enola Holmes star showed towards his role. “Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand,” he explained. The Daredevil creator continued the role was physically demanding, and the actor had to put in much effort.
So this could be a probable factor for him stepping down from the iconic role. This statement, however, was another assumption and Cavill did not answer this question. While Cavill’s exit undoubtedly sparked widespread disappointment, it does not mean his adventure in the fantasy realm has ended. The Man of Steel alum has been working on the adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 for some time now.
