"NEVER BEEN MORE READY"- Fans’ Excitement Peaks as the First Glimpse of Ciri From The Witcher 4 Surfaces

The Witcher 4 is CD Projekt’s biggest project yet- in scope, ambition, and also in the number of people working on it. Still licking its wounds from the long, painful wait between the announcement and release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt announced back in 2021 that they would not start hyping up anything until they were much closer to launch. And it looks like The Witcher 4 is finally ready to make its big debut.

CD Projekt recently dropped a cinematic trailer for the upcoming sequel of The Witcher, and the hero of the game was none other than Ciri. This surprise was unveiled at The Game Awards. The trailer showed Ciri slaying a massive snake-like creature in a dark, mysterious forest. CDPR first confirmed The Witcher 4's development back in March 2022. However, they did not give the game an official title at the time.

Instead, they have been referring to it as Project Polaris. But The Witcher 4 is not the only Witcher-related project on CD Projekt’s plate. They are also working on a remake of the first game and a spin-off. Meanwhile, Andrzej Sapkowski is still churning out new Witcher books, and the Netflix show has two more seasons to go before it calls it quits. Right now, though, all eyes are on Ciri in The Witcher 4 game.

How Will the New ‘The Witcher 4’ Game Affect Geralt and Ciri’s Story in the Season 3 of Netflix Series

Fans have taken to X to share their excitement about stepping into Ciri's boots in the next Witcher adventure.

Fans are thrilled by Ciri's first look in The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 trailer made it quite clear that it will be about Ciri. She also appeared a bit older and more mature than when last seen in The Witcher 3. In the trailer, Ciri was shown in a small village, where a young woman was about to be sacrificed to a monster. But the decision to make Ciri the protagonist suggests that the witcheress ending of The Witcher 3 could have been the true ending, though it remains to be seen if CD Projekt Red has managed to include the Empress and other endings as well. Regardless, fans are clearly loving Ciri’s new look.

Not all fans, however, are happy with the protagonist choice. Some were very disappointed as they did not want to play as a woman.

There is no official release date for The Witcher 4 yet, but if everything goes as planned, it might be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S before the current console generation ends. CD Projekt Red had also mentioned earlier that the game is expected to launch 1-2 years after the full reveal. And if this trailer drop was the full reveal, the new Witcher game could be on the horizon within a year or two.
