Netflix Continues To Cash In On Dave Chappelle, Drops ‘What’s In a Name’ As Still As A Mouse

The American star Dave Chappelle is an iconic stand-up comedian and actor. He is ranked among the top 50 comedians of all time seeing his remarkable performance in comedy shows. As his satirical series, Chappelle’s Show was critically acclaimed throughout its run. While the comedian started doing stand-up shows after that across the U.S. Also, the Grammy winner Dave received much appreciation from Esquire who called him the “comic genius of America”. Netflix launched Dave’s former high school speech that he gave at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. The 40-minute film titled What’s In A Name arrived on the streamer this Thursday directed by Rikki Hughes.

Netflix has been streaming Dave Chappelle’s comedy speeches since 2017 and they continue it by streaming What’s In A Name. Somehow controversy on The Closer affected Dave’s image and led to a sudden break in his ongoing stand-up shows. This is why Netflix didn’t make any noise about the arrival of his new speech What’s In A Name. Also, his set from Netflix Is a Joke was canceled because he was attacked by an attendee at the festival

Moving on from everything Netflix premiered the film as the speech opens with Duke Ellington’s famous quote: “Art is dangerous. It is one of the attractions: when it ceases to be dangerous, you don’t want it.” Whereas the speech also stated that the college theater was about to be in Chappelle’s name. But due to all the defamation, they changed it to the Theater for Artistic Freedom and Expression. 

“The more you say I can’t say something, the more urgent it is for me to say it,” he said in the speech. 

“It has nothing to do with what you are saying I can’t say. It has everything to do with my freedom of artistic expression,” he added, explaining the meaning of the title.
