‘My Brilliant Career’ on Netflix: Filming Begins for Australian Series - Cast and Key Details Inside

Once upon a streaming queue, Netflix decided to dust off the literary shelves and give heroines their high-definition due. From Louisa May Alcott’s rebellious March sisters in Little Women to Daphne du Maurier’s mysterious Rebecca, the platform has been steadily adapting classic tales where women think, dream, and, scandalously, say no. It gave Anne with an E a bigger attitude and Elizabeth Bennet a sharper tongue. Clearly, Netflix loves a good corset-clad revolution. And now, it is ready to add another one to the shelf.
My Brilliant Career is stepping up next, and frankly, it already sounds like it will refuse to marry anyone.

Pack your literary picnic baskets and prepare for scenic rebellion, My Brilliant Career is officially in production. Netflix has confirmed filming began in South Australia on June 12th, 2025. With bonnets flying and ambition brewing, the series is expected to grace screens sometime in late 2026 or early 2027, or sooner, if the editing elves work overtime. Until then, admirers must wait patiently, perhaps by revisiting Miles Franklin’s original novel of the same name with theatrical flair.
What glorious defiance lies at the heart of My Brilliant Career?
In the dusty glow of 19th-century Australia, Sybylla Melvyn is not the type to smile politely and marry a man with a nice fence. Fiercely intelligent and delightfully stubborn, she clashes with her mother and is sent to live at Caddagat, a picturesque estate that promises refinement, and marriage prep disguised as charm school. There, Sybylla discovers intellectual freedom, personal ambition, and Harold Beecham, a potential suitor who is both kind and dangerously convenient. But life, like Sybylla, refuses to be predictable.
Just as her dreams begin to flourish, duty calls her to the grim Barney’s Gap as a governess. The journey from Caddagat to compromise is both poignant and thrilling, and the cast will perfectly execute the plot.
Say hello to the stars of My Brilliant Career
Leading the charge is Philippa Northeast as Sybylla Melvyn, already known to Netflix viewers for her role as Susia Lawson in Territory. She brings a confident charm honed in Good Cop/Bad Cop and The Newsreader. Christopher Chung, fresh from Blitz, will portray Harold “Harry” Beecham. Anna Chancellor, last seen wielding sarcasm in My Lady Jane, takes on the refined Mrs. Bossier, while Genevieve O’Reilly, a rebel in Andor, lends grace and gravity as Helen.

Kate Mulvany will embody Augusta with razor-sharp presence, while Jake Dun adds sibling tension as Frank. The supporting cast includes Alexander England as Julius, Sherry-Lee Watson as Nell, and Miah Madden as Betty. This cast is a well-curated mix of prestige and punch, because if Dexter truly is bidding Netflix farewell, we shall need something brilliant to fill that void.
