For this new dog-toothed turn Netflix has taken, a fresh origin tale where a young Mystery Inc., Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby, first unite to unmask suburban spooks has been defined for now. Eight episodes have been greenlit, as per Netflix, eyeing an early 2026 production kickoff under Warner Bros. Television.

To ensure the spooky hijinks stay true to form, Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio have hopped on the ride, Netflix Tudum confirmed in March 2025. A blend of teen drama and classic nosy-kids charm can be looked forward to.

Showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, fresh from genre hits, helm this hound-powered adventure with Berlanti Productions' Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh Redman. Their track record of honoring TV roots while injecting zip. This squad might just be as poised as possible to serve nostalgia with a modern twist, keeping Scooby's signature bark as timeless as ever.

Past Scooby flicks were fun, but this TV twist promises deeper dogged detective work.

Scooby-Doo vs past adaptations

Whether or not they strut on Netflix, the 2000s big-screen numbers might just be forgotten with this new, streamable entrée to the dog parade. With Matthew Lillard's Shaggy, they had all, from Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed to Scooby-Doo: Mystery Begins,  leaned on slapstick and star power.

Netflix's first-of-its-kind live-action TV swing to Scooby-Doo, on the other hand, is said to be diving deeper into backstories sans the rubber masks' full reveal too soon. Warner Bros. had elevated it beyond camp, with promises of sharper mysteries over goofy gags.
