Netflix acquired the rights to adapt Little House on the Prairie over four decades after the NBC series concluded. But what is the story of the Netflix adaptation?
Plot of Little House on the Prairie on Netflix
Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. The books revolve around her own youth while growing up in the American West in the 1800s. Wilder wrote the books during the Great Depression, and they were first published in the 1930s. According to Tudum, “a transformed adaptation of Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books, the new Little House on the Prairie is part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.”
Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie will offer an in-depth account of the struggles and achievements of the people who shaped the frontier. “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old,” Rebecca Sonnenshine said, explaining that the books inspired her to become a writer. Trip Friendly, who serves as an executive producer on the series, and whose father produced the 1974 television film and series on NBC from 1974 to 1984, said the Netflix adaptation is his longtime dream-come-true of carrying forward Ed Friendly’s legacy.
That said, when will Little House on the Prairie be released on Netflix?
