Arrived on the platform last week on May 15, Secrets We Keep aka The Reserve revolves around the mysterious disappearance of an au pair from an upper-class Copenhagen suburb. But clearing the air of confusion, Netflix’s Tudum has stated that the Danish drama series is not based on a real-life story and does revolve around Denmark’s au pair culture. In the country, there are many au pairs from the Philippines, only the idea of which is borrowed.
There has also been no confirmation from Netflix on the show being renewed for a second season. Though it has an ambiguous ending, the show was announced as a six-episode mini-series from the start. Taking place in Copenhagen and a nearby suburb, Secrets We Keep pulls the curtains on the dirty secrets of the posh families in rich neighbourhoods, when a newly appointed au pair, Ruby, disappears without a trace. While the renewal remains in the haze, the recent reviews are making the show more popular.
The new Netflix arrival has hit the spot with the audience and the critics who are favoring it with affirmative responses.
Critical and commercial reception of Secrets We Keep reaches rooftop
Upon its arrival, Collider said that the series' take on the uncomfortable, timely material is very much a "blunt exploration of the disparities between the hyper-rich and the disenfranchised". In less than a week, it has already soared to number 2 on the platform, making it a streaming experience that should not be skipped over. And other praises from all quarters, especially Rotten Tomatoes, where it has scored a 100% score, are speaking volumes about the show's charm. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series is praised for highlighting the evils of privilege and the suffering of the domestic helpers.

Additionally, it is also commended for not sending viewers down dead ends, sticking to the point, and delivering a dependable, binge-worthy drama that will not disappoint in the end. Surely, Netflix knows how to serve drama and mystery just right, and with Secrets We Keep, they have made a homerun. Though earlier aimed as a small series, after the spectacular reception, fans are hoping that Netflix will bring another season of this Danish drama, which they cannot get enough of.
