How a 12-Year-Old Millie Bobby Brown Channeled Eleven on Her First Demogorgon Sighting
The second we hear Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown’s iconic shaved head avatar in Hawkins' oversized gown instantly pop into our minds. She is famous for playing the fearless, badass superheroine with psychic powers who takes on all sorts of creepy monsters from the unknown world- now, almost known. But it was not just on-screen Eleven who was unfazed by the creepy creatures. Off-screen, Brown did not bat an eye at their ghastly appearance either.
Even as a 12-year-old, Brown was not the least bit scared of the spooky sights on the set that even freaked out the adults a little.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2016, four months before Stranger Things season 1 premiered on Netflix, Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour discussed the first time they saw Demogorgon on the sets. Sure, it was a man in a suit, but the “horribly disfigured thing” still scared the bejesus out of Harbour. Brown, on the other hand, fears "nothing”. “It’s not scary,” she insisted, and the pint-sized 12-year-old boasted about shaking hands with the Demogorgon when she first saw it on the sets.
Brown, however, confessed that she is scared of “ghosts and stuff” but not big slimy monsters. In fact, she was “surprised” that her 41-year-old co-star was so scared of the humanoid monster. Since then, Brown has gone on to build a monstrous track record with the Netflix show and the Godzilla franchise. But while Brown was unfazed by Demogorgon, there was one supervillain in Stranger Things that had her gulp a bit.
Millie Bobby Brown could not enjoy any of her scenes with Jamie Campbell Bower in season 4 because of his terrifying look as Vecna.
Millie Bobby Brown was terrified of Vecna
Millie Bobby Brown, during a Stranger Things Epic Con panel earlier this year, revealed that she was very scared while filming scenes with Vecna. “I am terrified of his costume. It scares me,” said the Enola Holmes actress. It was only after smelling on Jamie Campbell Bower’s “breath cigarettes” that she believed it was her co-star and not anything else. This is not surprising considering the methods Bower employed for transforming himself into the supervillain, and not just in terms of looks.

Brown also contradicted her 12-year-old self, saying, “I don’t like people covering their faces. It’s definitely a phobia”. She further clarified that she has had this phobia since she was a little kid. Makes one wonder how she was not fazed by Demogorgon who was also a person covering their face under a masked costume.
