Despite ‘The Witcher’ Making Changes to Its Characters, Writer Andrzej Sapkowski Once Admitted He Does “not care” about Them
As the third season of The Witcher came to a conclusion, so did Henry Cavill’s run as the Geralt of Rivia. While this development angered many fans it also posed a unique challenge for the show’s creators. This was because the series would now have to find a way to explain the changed face of the White Wolf in the upcoming season. And that was surely not something they could derive from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books that it is based on.
Unlike fans who were enraged by Cavill getting replaced by Liam Hemsworth, the show’s creator was probably unbothered. After all, he made his indifferent stance on his characters known years ago.

In an interview with Sugarpulp in 2019, Sapkowski declared that he does not pay attention to his books’ games or series adaptations. As long as his characters remain his, he did “not care” about “what is done” with them. As for his writing process, the 75-year-old exclaimed that he was “a f**king artist” who just wrote words instead of “imagining” his work as films.
His attitude is clearly in huge contrast to other creators like Eiichiro Oda who have worked with Netflix but were still extremely protective of their beloved characters. So, despite Netflix’s deviations from the original books, the Polish author has never raised a finger.
For the fantasy novelist, his love for the Netflix series only grew over time as he watched Cavill take on Geralt’s role superbly. Yet, while praising him for it, he once made a prediction that was eventually proven false.

When speaking about what inspired him to create the Witcherverse, Sapkowski once pointed in The Lord of The Rings’ direction. Even comparing Cavill to a character from J. R. R. Tolkien’s franchise, he complimented the British actor. In the same interview, he went on to say that Cavill portraying Geralt “shall be forever so” and his character’s face will never change.
As everybody now knows, Liam Hemsworth has emerged as the successor to the beloved Man of Steel actor. If Sapkowski still does not care about the fate of his characters, being proven wrong must have not fazed him!
