Leviathan chronicles an alternate version of World War I, bringing the divided world of 1914 to life. While one faction of the world allies with the Clankers — the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which utilizes massive mechanized weapons — the other allies with the Darwinists, who employ bioengineered creatures to counter.
Caught in the middle of the highly charged conflict are two uncanny heroes — Prince Aleksandar, the fugitive heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and Deryn Sharp, a brave Scottish girl who disguises herself as a man to serve in the British Air Service. Their paths cross aboard the almighty titular airship that takes them on a journey, changing the course of their lives. But who brings heart, grit, and fire to its sky-high adventure?

Leviathan brings together a powerhouse of Japanese vocal talents with Ayumu Murase lending his voice to the fugitive prince Alek, and Natsumi Fujiwara embodying the bold but disguised Deryn Sharp. The ensemble also includes Shunsuke Sakuya as Count Volger, Fairouz Ai as Lilit, Hiroki Touchi as Nikola Tesla, and more.

Leviathan lands with a roar — when and where to witness the steampunk spectacle
Based on a 2009 novel by Scott Westerfeld, Leviathan is now streaming on Netflix alongside multiple must-watch anime releases of the year. The offering premiered all 12 episodes on the streaming giant on July 10 and already has fans hooked. Rated TV-14 and categorized as an Original Net Animation (ONA), the effort embodies not only the titular Westerfeld novel but also its sequels, Behemoth and Goliath.

Leviathan is produced by Qubic Pictures, with Studio Orange handling the visuals. The studio, as mentioned above, is renowned for BEASTARS, as well as Trigun Stampede and Land of the Lustrous. Christophe Ferreira directs the effort, with Tadashi Nakajima serving as the art director. While an English dub of the season is set to follow soon, Leviathan, which is now out, is rightly serving as anime lovers’ newest obsession.
