Her brother, Finneas O'Connell, echoed similar sentiments, predicting a resurgence of traditional album listening habits as a necessary corrective to these emerging trends. Hence, a big reason for her aversion lies in the hope of a comeback of the “old-school” days.

According to Finneas O'Connell, Billie Eilish’s brother, this upcoming record is aimed at bringing back her old self in an attempt to excuse her comfort zone. Hence, to craft 'Hit Me Hard and Soft', the pair had to revisit several things of the past. He revealed that the album has ghosts of the past that go back five years or more. Her brother referenced the “theatrically” dark era that Eilish was going through during ‘When We All Fall Asleep’.

O'Connell continued that in this album, she will revisit that darkness and blend it with something new sonic experiments to bring what they believe to be their “best” so far. Hence, to give the story its due credit, one has to be part of the cohesive experience rather than delving into the pick-me attitude. While her reasonings explain the roots of her diversion in her upcoming album, all that is left is for the audience to sympathize with her sentiments to relish her music.
