Taking to her official Instagram account on July 25, the same day when Happy Gilmore 2 dropped on Netflix, Taylor Swift praised the movie as an “absolute must-watch,” as she shared how the feature had her “cackling and cheering” throughout its entire duration. Notably, the endeavor has her boyfriend Travis Kelce appearing in a brief but bold role; hence, Swift singing commendations for the project was inevitable. What no one saw coming, though, is the Eras Tour performer allotting the film a "13/10" rating, while urging fans to watch it soon.

Well, some fans topped Taylor Swift in watching Happy Gilmore 2, and they also left her behind in sharing their honest-to-God opinions on the movie. So far, the title has found no luck among the common masses, as they denounced it on X, calling its writing “sloppy and lazy” and the overall production “obnoxious.” Will Taylor Swift’s praise for the movie be able to shape the popular opinion around it in the coming days? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, for those who have not yet dived into the world of the golf drama starring Adam Sandler, the original will only be available on Netflix for a few more days.

Just as Happy Gilmore 2 swings onto screens, the original is getting scrapped. Netflix's timing has everyone talking.

Love it or not, Happy Gilmore is packing up its club and leaving Netflix soon

Netflix sparked mixed feelings among viewers by announcing the departure of Happy Gilmore right before it welcomed Happy Gilmore 2. The original film, according to the latest update, is set to bid farewell to the platform on August 1, leaving fans with less than a week to revisit the tale that started it all, unless they are willing to switch platforms to Hulu or Peacock. Although shifting streaming rights is not a big deal in the ever-evolving world of OTT, the timing of this particular development is especially odd, given it recently climbed to the No. 3 spot on Netflix.

On the other hand, Netflix has a multi-million-dollar deal in place with Adam Sandler, which will see many of his future gigs arrive on the platform, all while escaping a theatrical release. This adds remarkably to Netflix’s catalogue of tickling comedies. That being a different matter altogether, the streamer must now focus on leveraging Taylor Swift’s comments on Happy Gilmore 2 to rightly influence public opinion in its favor, as it had done for the movie before its release, going all out with the marketing campaign.
