Taylor Swift did indeed star in The Giver, a 2014 drama film directed by Phillip Noyce. Co-starring alongside Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgård, Emma Tremblay, and more, the 'Lover' hitmaker played Rosemary, the daughter of the titular character. The singer's character appears in flashbacks in the film and is seen embracing the joy of music — a forbidden element in the dystopian society at the heart of the title's plot. The offering is available to stream for free on Netflix, and is also available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more.
The Giver is based on the 1993 young adult novel of the same name, and Swift was a fan of the tome before she said yes to the opportunity of starring in its film adaptation. “When I read the book, it was one of those things that really changed my perspective on a lot of things,” a 24-year-old Swift said at a press conference in New York in 2014. The narrative of both the book and the film chronicle the themes of forsaken passion and freedom traded for order and peace in a regulated region. The Giver making the crux of this article, however, is not random.
The recent buzz surrounding the film is courtesy of Alexander Skarsgård, who recently addressed a longstanding speculation concerning him and Taylor Swift.
Could Alexander Skarsgård have inspired one of Taylor Swift’s most popular songs? He answers
Swifties have speculated for years that Taylor Swift’s 'Wildest Dreams' was inspired by Alexander Skarsgård, as the lyrics closely mirror his “tall and handsome as hell” image. Moreover, the song also came out shortly after Swift’s time on The Giver, which, as mentioned earlier, starred Skarsgård — hence acting as gasoline to the fire. The actor recently addressed the theory of being romantically linked to Swift, saying on the Armchair Expert podcast that he does not think the song is about him. Who is it about then?

The conversation started with the podcast host Dax Shepard claiming the song was about him, and that he had sold the same story to his family as well. To this, Skarsgård replied that because Swift allegedly saw Shepard at her show in Lisbon and sang the song for him, it must mean it is based on him. Irrespective of whether the song is or is not about him, Skarsgård went on to confirm he is a fan of his rumored ex-flame, who is now reportedly getting ready to tie the knot with Travis Kelce. Well, fan or not, The Giver starring the two will now definitely be on Swifties’ watchlist.
