David Corenswet’s entrance as Superman reformed the skyline of pop culture chatter as Metropolis staples Lois Lane and Lex Luthor also reclaimed the spotlight via the latest movie. Apart from the leading ensemble, a few supporting cast members — Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific — also made fans happy. These roles, in the wake of the Superman buzz, are reportedly a glance at the future of Warner Bros. and DCU. James Gunn, according to The Wall Street Journal, is eyeing a television spinoff based on one of the characters. While Hawkgirl may have to wait to receive an exclusive spotlight, Gunn is reportedly pumped about a Mr. Terrific spinoff.
Another character interesting Gunn for a solo screen show is reportedly Jimmy Olsen. The outlet rightly pointed out that such expansions echo Marvel's age-old strategy. Additionally, the publication also cited Dan DiDio, a former executive editor and co-publisher of DC Comics, saying, “If Superman is working, the feeling from the audience is that DC overall is working.” In other words, David Corenswet is not just shouldering the responsibility of making a space for himself in the very crowded superhero universe — he is carrying the weight of the entire Warner Bros. studio and the DCverse. However, the spinoffs will most move forward only if Superman brings in enough revenue.

Warner Bros. executives reportedly want Superman to bring in 500 million USD globally. While the expected revenue for the 225 million USD film may appear dwarfed in comparison to what Marvel titles make, Warner Bros. is apparently playing a different chord altogether. For the banner, as detailed above, it is more important that Superman becomes a constant point of discourse in the superhero universe, keeping the metal hot enough for a Supergirl spinoff to strike. Next in line is also a Green Lantern television show and multiple Batman films.

If the aforementioned cable network spinoffs materialize, they could certainly breathe new life into the DCverse — and eventually, Warner Bros. Only time will tell if Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen find an exclusive place on the small screen. However, one thing is certain — DC has entrusted all its faith in James Gunn to steer the ship, despite Zack Snyder fans expressing disappointment over it.
