The Cannes Film Festival begins on May 13, and just a day before, they have decreed to maintain decency at the event; there will be no nudity. Cannes' official charter states that “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival.” Also issued were other rules that voluminous outfits, especially the ones with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre, are also not permitted.

As per the charter, the festival welcoming teams have been charged with the task of prohibiting red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules. A representative from the Cannes press office confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that certain rules have long been in effect. But the aim for this update is “not to regulate attire per se but to prohibit full nudity on the carpet,” which also happens to be complying with the institutional framework of the festival as well as French law.
