3 Reasons Chris Evans MCU Return Is Justified and Actually Interesting

The lost Avengers are assembling- well, sort of. They might not look the same this time around. Earlier this year, Robert Downey Jr. caused a fandom meltdown with the news of his MCU comeback as Doctor Doom. And now, it seems like Chris Evans is next in line to jump on the nostalgia train. That said, not everyone is on board with the idea. There has been a fair amount of skepticism about whether bringing back these actors from retired characters to play entirely new ones is a good idea. Some think it might also risk feeling a bit too forced.

There are still three strong reasons why Chris Evans’ MCU return could actually add an exciting new twist to the upcoming Avengers movies.

Chris Evans' Captain America might still be alive

MCU Phase 4 is adding to the mystery of what happened to Captain America after Avengers: Endgame. One of the biggest clues suggests that Steve might actually be dead. The Russo Brothers confirmed that he traveled back to the 1940s, making him about 180 years old by the time we last saw him. Since his exact whereabouts are a mystery known only to Sam and Bucky, it leaves fans wondering if he is truly gone.

If Steve is not dead, though, another theory is that he has gone into hiding- and that would not be out of character. After Civil War, Steve Rogers became a fugitive and stayed off the grid with Natasha Romanoff and Sam Wilson. So, it is not entirely impossible that he is just living a quiet, peaceful life somewhere, watching the new generation of heroes take over and handle the chaos for a change.

Johnny Storm survived Cassandra

On the other hand, Chris Evans himself has not exactly disappeared from MCU superhero roles. He recently appeared as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately, Johnny’s fiery cameo ended in a brutal death, courtesy of Cassandra and his own nasty badmouthing habit. But again, this is the MCU- we have seen weirder.

It would not be the first time the creators will bring back a supposedly dead character, just sprinkling in some time travel, alternate universes, or resurrection theories to make it all work. Therefore, if they want Chris Evans to come back as Johnny Storm, they will find a way.

Another Captain without 'America'

The most popular theory about Chris Evans’ big return is that he will come back as a totally different character- or maybe even a Captain from another universe, like Nomad. Nomad is actually an alternate identity that Steve adopts after he gives up the Captain America title and suit. And a recent report seems to back up this rumor as well.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider shared on the latest episode of The Hot Mic that Evans might be taking on the role of Nomad. It is kind of like how the MCU brought Robert Downey Jr. back, as some versions of Doctor Doom in the multiverse are actually Tony Stark.
