“Taking all of my focus” — Henry Cavill Teases Full Commitment to ‘Highlander’ Reboot, Expected to Start Filming Soon

For nearly two decades, the Highlander reboot has lingered in Hollywood limbo, generating buzz but never quite crossing into production. Fans of the cult classic have waited with bated breath as the long-promised revival remained stalled until now. With anticipation surrounding the much hyped endeavor, Henry Cavill has offered a spark of hope by recently teasing his full commitment to the said film, hinting that the immortal saga may finally be ready to rise again. 

After years of silence, Henry Cavill's remark from behind the scenes suggests cameras may be poised to roll at last for the Highlander reboot.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on July 30, Henry Cavill said Highlander is one project that is “taking all of my focus” at the moment. The actor added further that it's a film that he is “extremely excited about” while also singling out and praising the director attached to it, saying he is loving working with Chad Stahelski. Cavill’s statement to the outlet suggests shooting for the long-awaited reboot will commence this summer. 

Highlander, for those unversed, was originally a 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert in the lead role alongside Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. In the reboot, Henry Cavill, who has several other projects in the pipeline as well, subs out Lambert, who played an immortal Scottish swordsman, Connor MacLeod, fighting the last of his immortal enemies. Joining the Argylle star in the reboot are Russell Crowe as well as Marisa Abela. With production on the Highlander revival expected to start soon, when can fans expect the title to hit theaters?

If timelines hold, Highlander may unsheath sooner than later

First announced in 2008, Highlander experienced a lot of filming delays. At one point, the movie was set to start taping this January, but Chad Stahelski’s commitment to Ballerina further delayed the process. As of an update from May, per ScreenRant, the Highlander movie should finally start filming in September of this year. And if all goes smoothly, then forth, the final product should hit theaters in mid-2026 at the earliest or the first half of 2027 latest.

Additional information known about Highlander reboot’s is that the upcoming film will also comprise a “bit of a love story,” though not in the conventional way, per Chad Stahelski’s account to The Direct. The romance arc, per the filmmaker, would be brought forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong. The John Wick helmer said he would like to see how things go with it. Amid Henry Cavill’s confirmation on Highlander’s schedule and the past comments from the director, the reboot sounds to be shaping up as an overly glorious iteration without a doubt.
