Sydney Sweeney was never a typical Hollywood starlet, and she never will be. One minute, you find her riding on the rom-com train, igniting a genre renaissance; the next, you see her packing punches like it is Fight Club. While she has more or less done everything an actor dreams of, from sneaky box office successes to starring in a Rolling Stone music video, she has another achievement ready to unleash the highly anticipated Christy Martin biopic.  

While Sweeney’s screen time has always been a delight, when will the Christy Martin biopic be released?

Deadline reported last May about the upcoming sports drama movie, chronicling the life of Christy Martin, starring Sydney Sweeney. Although a year has passed since the announcement, the flick still lacks a release date. The film also does not have a title. The Christy Martin biopic has already skipped January’s Sundance Film Festival and the SXSW Film and TV Festival in March. However, many other festivals remain where the film could be premiered, as FandomWire speculates a late 2025 date.

Then again, with no hints or teasers about the release date, only time will reveal whether Sweeney gets into the ring this year or next. Director David Michôd said, “The film is about Christy as a young g-- woman in small-town West Virginia in the 1990s.” The upcoming flick evolves around key compromises she made in her life, “the most important of which was marrying an incredibly dangerous man.”

While Sydney Sweeney has wrapped up filming the Christy Martin biopic, who else stars in the boxing movie?

Sydney Sweeney is leading the Christy Martin biopic in its titular role. Her Instagram has been the perfect outlet to watch her incredible transformation. But besides her, Ben Foster is all set to play James Martin, the man who transitioned from manager to husband, putting her life in grave danger. Merritt Wever is also a part of the Christy Martin biopic. However, her role has not been revealed. 

Katy O’Brien has joined the cast in an undisclosed role alongside Ethan Embry. Embry’s role in the biopic remains under wraps, too. Kerry Kohansky-Roberts for Anonymous Content, David Michôd for Yoki, Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel for Votiv, Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films, and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear are producing the untitled film. Mirrah Foulkes and Michôd have written the script.
