Actor and director Jason Bateman has long been in the industry and is aware of how the business runs. For the latest episode of his podcast, Smartless, he invited Michael De Luca, who is Warner Bros. Motion Pictures’ Co-Chair and CEO, and Pamela Abdy, who serves as the CEO of Warner Bros Entertainment. During the show, De Luca spoke to Bateman on rare comedy movies working well, pointing out, “Anyone But You came out and worked.”

In this episode, the guests, and Jason Bateman and the other hosts, talked about how the perspective and acceptance around the latest comedy movie releases have changed. As per Michael De Luca, a lot of comedy has gone to live on streaming and TikTok in short form, which does not do well for the studios financially. But he also thinks that there still exists a theatrical audience who wants to get the cinema's large-screen experience. He also gave the example of Jennifer Lawrence's movie, No Hard Feelings, to convey his point.
This surely is a big win for the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell starrer which turned out to be a profitable commercial success.
The amazing box office collection of Anyone But You
The Will Gluck romantic comedy, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, was very well received at the box office. The movie was made on a $25 million budget, but it managed to earn an amazing $220.3 million. In fact, given its slow but steady growing fandom among the audience, Sony Pictures even released an extended version of the film on February 9, 2024, especially for Valentine’s Day. It was loosely based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, but became very famous for its musical end credits.
