Ryan Coogler’s Favorite Black Vampire Pick Has the Internet in Stitches

Vampires may lurk in the shadows, but in Ryan Coogler’s new film Sinners, they stalk the screen in full, chaotic glory. Coogler’s take on the mythological bloodsuckers is less about glittering romance and more about gnarly fangs and moral decay. While Sinners is not strictly a vampire flick, it borrows heavily from the genre’s darker themes. It is no wonder then, that when the conversation turned to vampires during the Mexico premiere, things got delightfully out of hand.
During the Sinners premiere in Mexico, director Ryan Coogler found himself in a fang-tastic situation. Monica Moore, who conducted interviews with the director and cast, posted a TikTok clip that quickly went viral. In the video, Moore can be seen asking Coogler about the vampires in Sinners and cheekily quizzing him on his favorite Black vampire. With some hesitation, Ryan Coogler declared, "Blade." The fans immediately burst into laughter because, honestly, who else was he supposed to say? Blade is practically the entire Black vampire department.

Of course, the internet being the internet, the question arose, is Blade really the only Black vampire? Technically, no, but good luck finding another one on a first guess. Blade, immortalized by Wesley Snipes, is the day-walking, leather-coat-swinging icon who shaped an entire generation’s idea of vampires. While other Black vampire characters exist in smaller cult films and television, none have sunk their teeth into pop culture quite like Blade. In the court of public opinion, he remains the undisputed champion.
The sheer obviousness of Ryan Coogler’s answer hit fans so hard that the internet practically needed a garlic necklace for recovery.
Ryan Coogler’s vampire answer has fans howling louder than a werewolf at open mic night
When Ryan Coogler declared Blade as his favorite Black vampire, fans immediately burst into laughter and disbelief. Truly, who else was he going to pick? Blade is the Beyoncé, the Michael Jordan, and the entire marketing department of Black vampires. The reaction was so chaotic that somewhere in the distance, even Dracula probably side-eyed the noise from his dusty coffin.
All jokes aside, fans have decided that Kevin Feige should hand Ryan Coogler the keys to the upcoming Blade movie. After all, Coogler clearly understands the assignment. Considering that Sinners sped past Nosferatu’s box office run faster than a vampire dodging sunlight, the internet believes Coogler directing Blade would be faster, sharper, and considerably less allergic to garlic.

At the end of the day, Ryan Coogler’s choice was less about shock and more about common sense. Blade is not just a character; he is practically a public service. Whether Coogler steps into the Marvel director’s chair or not, one thing is clear: the world needs more vampire movies, fewer glittery ones, and many, many more with swords and sunglasses.
