Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s $14 Million Montecito Home Faces Insecurity Drama Amid Portugal Dreams
Everyone aims for a life of stability and the Sussexes are no exception. But after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry traded royalty for the Californian lifestyle, instability, and uncertainty have been their BFFs, often backed by the glaring criticism of attaining success in neither. Although the Sussex couple recently made headlines for expanding their real-estate portfolio, acquiring a Portuguese property followed by hawk-eyed criticism from the neighborhood, the forks have now stuck their Montecito living they call home.
While Montecito was the safety net of smooth sailing after the regal storms that overtook Markle and the Prince, with the estate’s confrontation of Sussex-coded challenges, a spark of newfound concern is hovering over their heads.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry formed a dream team after departing from royal soil to make a dreamy living in Montecito, where they reside with their two children. But like the cliff-hanging potential of their royal future, their beloved residence has encountered uncertainty. Real estate company, Redfin, reported in October, “Montecito home prices were down 14.1% compared to last year,” citing the median price for a Montecito home at $5.5 million in 2024.
Accordingly, this sets back the Sussex estate's staggering $14 million value. The report also outlines that homes in Montecito now sell on an average of 43 days after listing on the market compared to 55 days last year. If one were to piece it all together and should the Sussexes decide to part ways with their property right away, Markle and Prince Harry would be inevitably in for a loss. However, given there are no reports regarding their relocation, there is every likelihood that property prices could go north by the time such a blueprint surfaces.
Although the Sussexes had no plans to move right away, rumor mills were fanning the flames along the lines when they acquired a Portuguese estate.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s million-dollar arrival in Portugal
According to The Mirror’s report, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spent a whopping $4.7 million for a new vacation home in Portugal on one of the 300 residential developments at the 722-acre Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club in October. Although fans raised eyebrows if they were eyeing a relocation once again within half a decade, it turned out to be just another expansion but with the Golden Visa perk.

This advantage allows the Duke and the Duchess to travel visa-free throughout the European Union’s Schengen area, including France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. It is unknown whether the estate acquisition has anything to do with the lowering prices of properties Stateside, especially in Montecito. However, considering their neighbors did not exactly welcome them with cheers, concerns now flow from California to Portugal.
