After Avengers: Endgame, MCU lost two of its main guys- Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. Both actors had announced their retirement from the studio following the 2019 blockbuster. However, there was always hope of them returning to the fold again. And that hope was finally realized when Downey Jr. announced his comeback as Doctor Doom in the MCU, earlier this year. And now, Chris Evans is also making a comeback with Avengers: Doomsday, as reported by The Wrap.

Evans has always been open to the possibility of returning to the MCU. He was also featured in Deadpool & Wolverine, although not in the role he is most famous for. As per the report, it is confirmed that he is joining the MCU back, but it is uncertain what role he would be taking on. Marvel is already bringing back an iconic Captain America with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday- Anthony Mackie.

In Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers had passed the patriotic shield of Captain America to Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Therefore, it is likely that Evans would be playing a different character from elsewhere in the multiverse, or perhaps a Captain America variant. Nonetheless, considering the frenzy that he sent fans into with his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo, just his appearance on the MCU screens, alongside Downey Jr. would be enough to make the 2026 movie a smash hit. But not many know that Evans had some conditions for the cameo.

Shawn Levy shared in August how Ryan Reynolds convinced Chris Evans for the memorable cameo as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch.

Chris Evans' Deadpool & Wolverine cameo came with one big condition

Chris Evans has been on record about wanting to reprise his role as Johnny Storm from the maligned 2005 Fantastic Four. And his wish got fulfilled in Deadpool & Wolverine the moment he shouted the immortal words of the bard himself. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused, Shawn Levy shared that Evans only agreed for the part after they decided to keep the final end credit monologue- where his character was seen badmouthing Cassandra in a filthy monologue.

It took Evans only two days to film his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine and he still managed to execute his scenes with precision and impeccable comedic timing. However, after his brutal death in the 2024 movie, even Evans' Johnny Storm is no longer in the MCU world, which also received a tribute from Ryan Reynolds. Whether or not he will be seen in the Captain America gear again, his anticipated MCU reunion with the legend Robert Downey Jr. is still a huge draw for moviegoers and Marvel buffs alike.
