Jason Bateman’s Quirky Gen Z Secret Is Out, Thanks to Jason Blum

Jason Bateman may be in his late 50s, but his actions are not all that different from Gen Z’s. The actor, who has been having a great run on the creative side lately, recently pulled a classic Gen Z move on an old friend and former co-star. Jason Blum, the producer behind some of Hollywood’s biggest horror hits, worked with Bateman years ago and has maintained a close friendship with the SmartLess hosts.

Blum, however, recently admitted that over the last few months, he has been ghosted by the very hosts—especially Jason Bateman.

While ghosting is usually seen as bad, Gen Z tends to be a lot more relaxed about it—and apparently, so does Jason Bateman. In an episode of SmartLess, guest Jason Blum shared how Bateman had ghosted him for months. “Jason just doesn't reply,” Blum revealed, saying he had sent multiple emails to the Carry-On actor and his other two podcast co-hosts, hoping to get him on the podcast to promote his movie. “I changed my email address,” Bateman said in his defense.

The movie in question is Blum’s latest horror project, Wolf Man, which recently had its premiere delayed because of the LA fires. The SmartLess hosts, making up for their ghosting act, gave the Leigh Whannell-directed film their enthusiastic approval during the podcast. Bateman and Blum worked together on the 2015 psychological thriller The Gift. But this podcast was not just about catching up or revealing Bateman's secrets like many of his co-stars do—it also brought out some intriguing tidbits about the Ozark actor’s less-than-perfect past.

Bateman even dropped a hint or two about how rough his early 20s were, as his co-host revisited an old memory.

During the episode, co-host Sean Hayes brought up a memory of Jason Bateman performing in a play and attending a casting call. But Bateman quickly jumped in, saying, "Some horrible example of what a fu----- monster I was in my early 20s." Bateman then summed it up as one of his more chaotic days but chose not to go into further detail.

The conversation eventually shifted back to Jason Blum, who shared some fascinating insights about how Bateman has navigated the tricky world of Hollywood. Blum also gave fans a sneak peek into the jam-packed lineup of 2025 releases, which he called the 'Monster Year'. All in all, Blum’s determination to get Bateman and the SmartLess crew’s attention for his movie promotion—ghosting and all—paid off in the end.
