Greta Gerwig has expressed openness to making Barbie 2, but only if she comes up with an idea that deeply resonates with her. "My North star is 'What do I deeply love? What do I really care about'" she said recently. She poured her heart into the first film and was not confident she'd find another concept that matched its strength. The award-winning director has made it clear that her creative process is driven by her passions and values.

Gerwig's approach to storytelling involves uncovering the underlying narrative that sparks her creativity. With Barbie, she drew inspiration from her childhood fascination with dolls and her mother's reservations about them. This generational story became the undertow that guided her vision for the film. The 41-year-old seeks to tap into similar emotional depths for any potential sequel.
