“I could be her father,” Arnold Schwarzenegger of His Onscreen Role in FUBAR Translated Offscreen
Arnold Schwarzenegger at 75 chose a Netflix series as his weapon of choice for making a big comeback. And just as expected, it was sharp and cut right to the chase. Within a mere week since its release, the Nick Santora-directed action comedy series, FUBAR, had climbed the top charts, quite effortlessly in every country. And one of the many reasons apart from Schwarzenegger’s eminent presence is the fact that the series is the closest that comes to a True Lies sequel that fans have waited long and hard for. However, this time around, there was a very notable shift in family dynamics, one that shaped what was to become of the show’s cast.
While the new Netflix series brings the Austrian Oak back into a tried and tested role as a CIA agent, there is a catch. He isn’t the only man on a mission in the family. His daughter is too. And this has laid the foundation for Schwarzenegger to become a “Pops,” to millions. Especially the cast.

The Terminator actor has taken on the titular role of Luke Brunner, a father to Emma on the paper. In reality, Schwarzenegger was the estranged father trying to rekindle with his daughter, Emma, while he continued to be a father figure for many years in the making for his fellow CIA agents. In an interview with TUDUM, the actor revealed he was used to hearing the cast call him, “Oh daddy, oh Pops,” on the sets of FUBAR. And he further added, “I could be her father,” in the series, but “grandfather” would be more likely in real life, as per TUDUM.
While Schwarzenegger was probably referring to the wonders of storytelling, even the slightest bit of ageism towards himself was not appreciated by his on-screen daughter Monica Barbaro. She quickly corrected, “My mom’s only a year younger than you.”
This sense of family was not privy only to his on-screen daughter. Jay Baruchel, who played Emma’s boyfriend, and Gabriel Lina, who portrayed Boro, both referred to themselves as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “surrogate sons.” But what is it about the actor that makes people feel at home?

How did the FUBAR cast become a family?
A simple answer would be the long hours spent on set. However, in the case of FUBAR, it is more than just that. The 75-year-old actor who made a comeback after four years was a treasure box of versatile experiences for those on set. And he was more than willing to mentor them.

Not only was Schwarzenegger an actor in the series, but he was also an executive producer. However, not even once did he make the cast feel as though they were lesser than him. And for this, the cast of FUBAR will be forever grateful.
