Released in the summer of 2024, their film became an instant cultural and box office juggernaut, blending sharp wit with high-stakes stunts. The 2025 Critics' Choice Super Awards winners were announced just a few hours ago, and Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were both in the spotlight. Nominated for Best Actor in a Superhero Movie, Reynolds, who returned as the foul-mouthed Deadpool, lost the acclaim to Jackman’s claw-donning Wolverine in a close call that thrilled fans. Reynolds, however, had his moment when the film won Best Superhero Movie, as he collected the trophy virtually. Producers traditionally get to take the stage for the Best Movie awards. Reynolds served as one for Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Shawn Levy, Kevin Feige, Simon Kinberg, and others.
Deadpool & Wolverine shattered records with its R-rated edge around this time last year, debuting with a thunderous $211 million domestically, per Box Office Mojo. The film went on to collect $636.7 million in its home market while raking in $701.3 million internationally, becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated films ever. Its massive success marked a milestone for Marvel as it established that an adult superhero offering could dominate the ticket counters as well as PG or PG-13 rollouts. With Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds leading the charge, the film, as can be reasoned, first delivered commercial and now critical gold. Who else won at the 2025 Critics' Choice Super Awards, though?
Several fan-favorite stars and movies, including Tom Cruise and Mission: Impossible 8, walked away with big wins at the 2025 Critics' Choice Super Awards.
Beyond Hugh Jackman, Critics' Choice Super Awards had more big surprises
First and foremost, the Critics' Choice Super Awards, known for spotlighting genre-driven storytelling, not only celebrate superhero spectacles but also sci-fi and game adaptations. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning took home the Best Action Movie prize at the latest edition of the said award ceremony, with Tom Cruise winning Best Actor in the category. Florence Pugh was named Best Actress for Thunderbolts* in the superhero genre, while Dune: Part Two led sci-fi honors for both the film and Timothée Chalamet.

On the TV side of the business, Shōgun dominated the party, with Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai taking top prizes. Colin Farrell’s chilling turn in The Penguin earned him dual recognition as both Best Villain and Best Actor in a Superhero Series. Cristin Milioti, meanwhile, was named Best Actress. The Last of Us won Best Horror Series, with Pedro Pascal, who has lately been facing heat for a specific reason, recognized for his role. In a full night of genre standouts, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, however, reigned supreme.
