Horror Master Jason Blum Reveals the Whopping 10-Figure in Revenue the Genre Makes for Hollywood
Hollywood’s genre calendar is a carefully crafted puzzle, with each piece falling into place during its designated time. Feel-good films traditionally dominate the final act of the year. However, the opening crescendo of the festive period is courtesy of the spooky season aka the period of fright nights. Although the spooky season may be the official harbinger of Halloween-esque thrills, horror maestro Jason Blum insists that fear is a 365-day affair.
With a staggering ten-figure revenue at stake, horror is a year-round juggernaut that shows no signs of slowing down with a grip on the audience that is anything but seasonal.

CEO of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum recently appeared on the Smartless podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnette, shedding light on the upcoming spook list from his coattails. Blum promises a blood-curdling 2025 with a slate of 8 spine-tingling films, including two original terror tales. As anticipation builds for his year-long descent into darkness, he revealed a chilling fact that horror rakes in a whopping $1 billion annually in domestic Hollywood revenue.
The figure sums up nearly 10% of Hollywood’s yearly earnings single-handedly. As the hosts struggled to wrap their heads around the staggering figure, one of them quipped, future award shows should kick off with a five-minute standing ovation for Blum—the unsung hero keeping Hollywood’s lights on and its workforce employed—before spearheading into the ceremony’s anthem. But safe to say, the hosts were not the only ones floored by the revelation.
Jason Blum’s bombshell about horror’s yearly earnings left everyone aghast, but he also had an ace up his sleeve: a must-watch 2025 release that solidifies the genre’s ironclad grip-year in and out.

January is known worldwide as the dump month, but this year, Hollywood is singing different tunes with one of the highly anticipated releases of Blumhouse Productions. In his recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, Jason Blum shared his top-watch movies of 2025, Wolf Man, the horror reboot of the classic. “It is great. It is Leigh who did the Invisible Man. It is amazing,” Blum said of the film which was initially announced in 2014, originally planned to be a part of the Universal Monsters.

In a separate interview, Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott recounted their initial reaction to the re-imagined and re-awakened creature, leaving them absolutely shocked. Although Wolf Man’s premiere was called off due to the recent Los Angeles wildfires and worsening conditions among other high-profile marquee events, considering Blum has his thumbs up for the movie, it will not be a shocker if horror as a genre takes the audience aback one more time, eclipsing the 10-figure amount for a bigger showdown.
