However, before Elordi claimed the role, there were whispers of A-list contenders vying for the part. Among them was Hollywood's golden boy, Andrew Garfield, who ultimately passed on the role, out of schedule clashes and a gesture of generosity. With the ship having sailed, Garfield has expressed some remorse over his decision, reflecting on the missed opportunity.
Elordi, however, seems destined to bring del Toro’s iconic creature to life and Andrew Garfield is trying to make peace with the same.

According to Deadline’s latest snippet, the We Live in Time star recently expressed remorse in turning down the chance to play Frankenstein’s Monster in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film. Andre Garfield revealed, “I was disappointed that I didn’t get to do it". However, he added that it was only after meeting Jacob Elordi that he “could really see and hear that he maybe needed that experience more” than him.
Garfield’s choice to step aside allowed Jacob Elordi to take on the iconic role and the actor seems at peace with the outcome. Despite his initial regret, Garfield believes Elordi’s experience with the role would be transformative. He expressed immense satisfaction in knowing that someone as talented as Guillermo is bringing his vision to life. He found the entire experience fulfilling, especially with such a capable team behind it. "I love Guillermo and I love Oscar, and everyone that ensembles," he said.

As per Vanity Fair's latest scoop, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein update is nearing release. A new behind-the-scenes image revealed Oscar Isaac as Frankenstein, alongside his monster, in a laboratory setting, which failed to appease fans. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Jacob Elordi. Netflix, meanwhile, is believed to have acquired the streaming rights.

Del Toro's Frankenstein is one of two adaptations set for release next year. Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride, a Bride of Frankenstein adaptation, is also forthcoming. The new images that surfaced on the net offered a glimpse into del Toro's vision for the classic Mary Shelley tale. While the release date for del Toro's film remains unannounced, anticipation has only gone sky-high all this while.
