Denise Welch Declares Staunch Support to “battered” Meghan Markle Hours After Roasting Taylor Swift

Denise Welch, a celebrated British actress and Matty Healy's mother, has carved a niche for herself as a fearless commentator on celebrity culture and social issues. Known for her unfiltered opinions and emotional honesty, most of which she unapologetically embraces on Loose Women, Welch has never shied away from controversy, often using her on-air appearances to champion causes and entities close to her heart. And close to her heart appears to be Meghan Markle.
Hours after bashing her son's alleged ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift, Denise Welch proudly defended Meghan Markle on a real-time broadcast.

During a chat on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Denise Welch was asked by a viewer what she thought the British public currently feels about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In response, Welch called herself the “only person” who flies the Sussexes' flag high at home. About Markle alone, Welch said people in both the US and Britain need to realize the former royal was a young black American woman and a strong voice of reason at UNICEF before marrying Prince Harry, which calls for some respect for her. While she favored the “battered” Duchess of Sussex as she sounded off against her critics, Welch's statement on Taylor Swift raised a lot of eyebrows.
Welch boldly shaded Swift, who supposedly dated Matty Healy for a fortnight in 2023. Saying not being the songstress's mother-in-law is a role she is “glad” she lost, Welch added that regardless of the history between the Grammy winner and her son, she does not have “anything” against her. Notably, Welch was not the only person who publicly supported the Suits alum of late.
Meghan Markle also found Maddison May Brudenell, Prince Harry’s relative, batting for her recently.
Maddison May Brudenell justifies Meghan Markle’s bridal look
Royal sleuths might be aware of the fact that Meghan Markle received ample backlash for opting for a bright white wedding gown, typically reserved for virginal brides, when she got married to Prince Harry. The fact reportedly also upset the late Queen Elizabeth II. Speaking on the matter with the Daily Mail, Maddison May Brudenell, who got married for the second time herself last year, said she finds the view old-fashioned and unfair, and is thus in total support of Markle’s choice of style for her special day.

Meghan Markle, for those unversed, opted for a crisp white Givenchy gown for her church ceremony with Prince Harry in 2018. The Duchess, who is allegedly headed for a professional separation from her husband, then changed into a stunning Stella McCartney number — also in white. Well, amid both Maddison May Brudenell and Denise Welch supporting Meghan Markle in quick succession, it appears she may not be as alone on Prince Harry’s home turf as reported after all.
