In a recent appearance on TODAY, days before the highly anticipated release of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise was asked about the much-awaited Top Gun threequel. Upon being asked whether the flick is on the horizon, Cruise nodded that the film is in the works and they are in the brainstorming phase, where they are thinking and reviewing several stories to churn out what they could bring and what is possible.

“It took me 35 years to, you know, figure out Top Gun Maverick,” Tom Cruise mused while giving his Top Gun 3 update. For those unaware, Top Gun 3 is expected to be a direct sequel to Top Gun: Maverick. However, at the moment, he is not only discussing the Top Gun sequel but also the highly anticipated sequel to the 1990 sports drama Days of Thunder and numerous other films.

While everything leading up to Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning translates to a blockbuster in the coming, despite previously playing coy about what is next, Tom Cruise’s Top Gun 3 teasers now point at another blockbuster in the making. 

It has been nearly three years since the last Top Gun movie was released to incredible success. Thus, it only makes sense that the anticipation is slowly but steadily building for its next installment. Although Tom Cruise has been caught up in the Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning flybys worldwide, his latest Top Gun 3 teasers were like prayers answered. As soon as the news broke, all hell broke loose, too.

Many fans were already celebrating a comeback on the screens.

Meanwhile, a few voiced concerns that another sequel might not live up to the hype. To be fair, mixed reactions and skepticism come with the territory when you are an A-lister.
