A sequel to Harmony Korine's cult hit Spring Breakers is officially in the works, and it is about to be one wild ride. Titled Spring Breakers 2, this crime thriller promises to take Gen Z on a chaotic trip, following a group of rebellious girls whose spring break quickly spirals out of control. What has everyone buzzing? The casting!  The Spring Breakers sequel has fans hyped with a beloved Stranger Things cast member set to join the madness alongside other talents. 

Director Matthew Bright has tapped into Stranger Things' Grace Van Dien, making this sequel even more intriguing. The buzz is real, and anticipation is through the roof.

Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain accelerates with a brand new cast — Bella Thorne, Ariel Martin from Zombies 2, Grace Van Dien from Stranger Things, and True Whitaker from Godfather of Harlem — playing four rebellious women whose spring break descends into criminal chaos, as per Variety. Directed by Matthew Bright, the sequel is produced by Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner, who backed the original 2012 film. Sales are being launched at the Cannes Film Festival by Capture, a venture from Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment.

Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers had earned over $30 million globally from a modest $5 million budget, cementing its place as a cult favorite. In 2014, a sequel titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, centered on Christian extremists, had been announced with Jonas Åkerlund and Irvine Welsh. By 2017, the project had been scrapped. While Spring Breakers itself had its troubled sequel history, Grace Van Dien, who is set to appear in Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain, had previously revealed her decision to shift focus from acting.

Grace Van Dien opened up in 2023 during a Twitch stream about her decision to step back from acting, citing troubling experiences on past projects. She revealed that a producer on one of her films reportedly asked for s----- favors, claiming he hired a woman he was involved with to ask her for inappropriate advances. "I cried and I was so upset," Van Dien shared. After the claims spread, she tweeted that her work priorities are shifting as she grows older.

Grace Van Dien, who sought calm after a difficult period in Hollywood, shared on X that she is now focused on finding the right project and collaborators. Known for her roles in The Village and Greenhouse Academy, Van Dien also produced, directed, and starred in the 2020 short film Monsters and Muses. Although she was a victim of real-life evil, having also faced one of the seven most evil characters in Stranger Things, Van Dien is now preparing for Spring Breakers 2, ready to make her return to the spotlight.
